Water, Myths, and Marvels is a creatively engaging installation designed for children and their families to explore, discover, and connect with the wonders of freshwater ecosystems. Through interactive elements and storytelling, visitors uncover fascinating facts and captivating myths about the diverse wildlife inhabiting lakes, rivers, and ponds.

It was commissioned by Lakeside Art, Wallner Gallery, 9th Sept to 6th Nov 2023. In partnership with Life Sciences. University of Nottingham.

Installation Features
The installation blends art, science, and play to foster a sense of wonder, curiosity, and connection to the natural world. It immerses visitors in the sensation of being beneath a lake or pond, with crochet water patterns suspended above, featuring swan heads, duck feet, and floating bird bottoms.
Life in Freshwater Areas
A 4-meter fabric collage lakescape conceals rap poems about pond creatures, activated by magnetic wands. A second area, created with the University’s Life Science Department, features microscopic lake life, taxidermy specimens, and magnifying glasses for close examination.
Interactive Felt-Covered Tables
Inspired by Highfield Park Lake, these tables encourage imaginative small-world play with stepping stones that produce sounds, a light box, wooden animals, and boats, allowing children of all ages to play together.
Stepping Stones with Sound
Floor stones activate surprise nature sounds, creating an engaging exploratory experience that delights visitors of all ages.
Snail Bookcase & Interactive Play
A multi-functional bookcase and seat featuring tactile objects like a frog’s life cycle encourages hands-on learning, storytelling, and deeper exploration of freshwater ecosystems.
